💧 Deputy Mayor calls for a government water safety minister after a week of deadly drownings - Alison Lowe, Deputy Mayor of West Yorkshire for Policing and Crime, has called on the government to appoint a dedicated minister for water safety, following multiple drownings of children and young people across Yorkshire and England in the past week. Among the tragedies: Reco David-James, 13, died after getting into difficulty at Leadbeater Dam near Halifax on Bank Holiday Monday.She called for long-term education, prevention resources and visible safety equipment at waterside locations. On knife crime, she confirmed knifepoint robberies in West Yorkshire have fallen by just over 20%700 fewer victims - backed by a new campaign launched last week featuring a music video.
